Domestic Air Source Heating Pumps uses low temperature energy from the outside air and converts it into high –grade heat that can be used for domestic heating and hot water. The system uses electrical energy to operate and in a well designed system will be cheaper than a Gas or Oil heating system. Air source heat pumps can be integrated with existing gas or oil systems to provide a bivalent heating system.

Due to the low running temperatures of heat pump systems, air source heating systems are particularly suited to new build dwellings or renovations where the level of insulation is comparable. Under floor floor heating is the most suitable heat emitting system to operate with the air source system although correctly designed radiators can also be used.

A typical installation would consist of a suitably placed external unit (the heat pump) and an internal buffer tank (water storage cylinder). Correct placement of the air source heating unit is key in it’s efficiency.
